The idea

Serve the cheese, the oysters or the dessert on a board that carries your lake. Wood that has lived two centuries, a coastline traced line by line, and water that stays smooth under your hand.

Tree rings that open into the shape of a lake, in dark brown woodcut style.

The board

A piece of the lake,
on your table.

A serving board to put at the center of the table and share.

How it's made

From old chestnut to your board.

Three steps, from old wood to finished board.

  1. 01

    Reclaimed chestnut

Each board is antique chestnut from the 1800s, selected for its grain and cut by hand.

  2. 02

    Laser engraving

The lake you choose is laser engraved into the wood.

  3. 03

    Resin, with or without legs

The engraving is filled with resin. Then you decide how the board stands.

FAQ

Good questions.

Is the resin safe for food?

Yes. The resin is food-safe, so you can serve directly on the board.

Can I use it without the legs?

Of course. Leave the steel legs off and it sits flat on the table; add them and it becomes a raised serving piece.

Which lakes will be available?

The most important lakes of every European country, plus any other European lake you ask for. The most requested have their own page: Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Gardasee / Bodensee. If you want your own lake, get in touch.

When do the first pieces go on sale?

Waitlist members hear first, with one email when we open.

What is Lakegrains?

Lakegrains makes serving boards from reclaimed antique chestnut from the 1800s, engraved with the outline of a European lake and sealed in food-safe resin. Every board is one of a kind, and the first run is small and limited.

Can I cut on it?

No. It is a serving board, not a cutting board. Slice in the kitchen, then bring the cheese, the oysters or the dessert to the table on the board.

What is it made of?

Reclaimed antique chestnut from the 1800s, cut by hand. The coastline is laser engraved into the wood and then filled with food-safe resin.
