Lake Constance serving board

Lake Constance joins three countries and has a shoreline you recognize at once. We trace it line by line into wood that is two centuries old, and fill it with resin that stays smooth under your hand.

Tree rings that open into the shape of a lake, in dark brown woodcut style.

The board

The lake

A lake with three faces.

A few facts about the lake you are about to put on the table.

Lake Constance lies where Germany, Austria and Switzerland meet, and at about 536 square kilometers it is one of the largest lakes in Central Europe. In German it is the Bodensee, and along its shores people like to call it the “Swabian Sea”.

Its shape is unmistakable: the broad Upper Lake (Obersee) between Konstanz and Bregenz, the narrow Überlinger See reaching northwest like an arm, and in the west the branching Lower Lake (Untersee) with the island of Reichenau. The Alpine Rhine flows into the lake in the southeast; at Konstanz it continues as the Seerhein toward the Untersee, and it leaves the lake at Stein am Rhein.

From Lindau through Bregenz, Friedrichshafen and Meersburg to Konstanz: anyone who grew up, studied or vacationed on Lake Constance knows this silhouette. Whether you love the lake from the German, the Austrian or the Swiss side, the shoreline on the board is the same.

How it's made

From old chestnut to your Lake Constance.

Three steps, from old wood to finished board.

  1. 01

    Choose Lake Constance

Lake Constance is the lake you pick. Prefer another one? Any European lake is possible on request.

  2. 02

    Engraved line by line

The shoreline of Lake Constance is laser engraved into reclaimed antique chestnut from the 1800s, selected for its grain and cut by hand.

  3. 03

    Resin, with or without legs

The engraving is filled with food-safe resin, so the lake stays smooth under your hand. Then you decide: flat on the table, or raised on steel legs.

Details

A Lake Constance board, for every kind of table.

Where it fits, and what it is not.

The keepsake

More than a souvenir.

Back from Meersburg, Lindau or Konstanz? This is the Lake Constance keepsake that lives on the table instead of in a drawer.

The gift

For anyone who comes from the lake.

For people who grew up on the Bodensee and live elsewhere today, for families with a holiday house on the shore, for anyone whose life has a Lake Constance in it.

Serving, not cutting

Slice in the kitchen.

It is a serving board, not a cutting board. Bring the cheese, the antipasti or the dessert to the table on it, flat or on steel legs.

One of a kind

No two boards alike.

The grain of wood from the 1800s never repeats, so no two Lake Constance boards are the same.

FAQ

Good questions.

What is the Lake Constance serving board?

A serving board in reclaimed antique chestnut from the 1800s, with the shoreline of Lake Constance laser engraved and filled with food-safe resin. Every board is one of a kind.

Can I choose a different lake?

Yes. Lakegrains engraves the most important lake of every European country, plus any other European lake on request, for example Lake Como, Lake Maggiore or Lake Garda. If yours is missing, get in touch.

Is the resin safe for food?

Yes. The resin is food-safe, so you can serve directly on the board.

Can I cut on it?

No. It is a serving board, not a cutting board. Slice in the kitchen, then bring the cheese, the antipasti or the dessert to the table on the board.

Can I use it without the legs?

Of course. Leave the steel legs off and it sits flat on the table; add them and it becomes a raised serving piece.

When can I buy a Lake Constance board?

Lakegrains is in pre-launch and the first run is small and limited. Waitlist members hear first, with one email when we open.

Lake Constance or Bodensee: is it the same lake?

Yes. Lake Constance is the English name of the Bodensee. The shoreline on the board is the same, whatever you call the lake.

Where does Lakegrains come from?

Lakegrains is run by Tecno-System di Paredi Enrico, based in Canzo, in Lombardy, Italy.
